THE WIA UK MENTORING PROGRAMME 2027 UPDATE

From 2027, we are putting mentoring at the heart of everything we do.

While this has always been a core part of our programme, we are concentrating our activities on mentoring. Our mission is to help women across architecture develop their careers, make meaningful connections and access experience and perspectives to tackle issues and progress. We will continue building a community that broadens support and enables the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Mentoring can make a difference at any stage of one’s professional life. That might mean finding a way into a first job, taking on greater responsibility, returning after a career break or deciding what comes next. Having someone to listen, offer perspective and provide constructive feedback can help shape uncertainty into a clearer sense of direction.

We bring individual mentoring relationships together, connecting a wider community of mentors, mentees and supporters. We organise events and create opportunities to share experience within our mentoring community, helping people build connections and learn from one another beyond their own workplace.

Mentors are chosen from different sectors of the built environment. Architects, designers, clients, developers, contractors, consultants and other industry leaders bring valuable insights and introduce mentees to perspectives they might otherwise not have access to. For mentors, this is an opportunity to support someone else’s development, reflect on their own experience and learn from a different point of view.

Building on five years of success delivering a growing mentoring programme, our next phase will concentrate on strengthening the mentoring experience and reaching more people over time.

Our ambition is to create a lasting community which helps women and under-represented groups progress and help our profession recognise and retain a wider and more diverse range of talent.
