WIA at LFA and Festival of Place June 2021

Summer usually brings festivals and we are thrilled to be taking part in two in June - the London Festival of Architecture (LFA) and the Festival of Place. At LFA, we are continuing our Big Debate series which aims to realise a collective vision of what the future of women in architecture looks like. The next Festival of Place run by The Developer is raising awareness around gender-equal cities, and we are joining a roundtable talk with other women-led built environment groups on the final day.

Both events encourage audience participation so we would love for you to join us. We hope to see many of you there!

Do we really care about women in architecture?

The Big Debate 2

9 June 2021 | 18:00 – 19:30 BST : London Festival of Architecture

Women are often seen as the ‘care’ providers in their circle of influence. But does the architecture professional really care about them?

Women in architecture were among the hardest hit during the many lockdowns. Balancing working from home, home schooling, caring duties and deadlines; many were driven to the brink of exhaustion - to the point of leaving the architecture profession.

As part of London Festival of Architecture 2021, join us for a lively debate on how we can care more for the women in our profession. We have brought together a formidable panel to share their insights and experience – Grace Choi from Grace Choi Architecture, Chithra Marsh from Buttress, Jude Barber from Collective Architecture, and Manisha Patel from PRP to name a few.

We will also explore ‘What does a practice that cares for women architects look like?’ in smaller breakout groups and map out our ideas and actionable suggestions on a digital whiteboard.

Festival of Place: Gender Equal Cities

7 - 9 June | 3 power lunches | 3 sessions a day | 12:00pm - 14:30 BST daily

Festival of Place: Gender Equal Cities, explores how making better places for women benefits everyone. Learn from leading experts why the case for equity is worth making, explore real projects to understand what a gender-equal city feels like and connect with professionals who care as much as you do about improving places.

WIA Steering committee member Tanisha Raffiuddin will be joining Parley: Represent! on Wednesday 9th June at 12pm BST, which brings together women-led built environment diversity and inclusion groups from BAME in Property to Part W to share their challenges and successes in driving change.

We are excited to support the Festival of Place and offer our community an exclusive 20% discount on the tickets. A limited number of free tickets are also available for charities, students, community groups, engaged citizens and small non-profit organisations.
